I can’t believe I’ll say this, but I’ve been enjoying TikTok immensely, specifically the creation process – I don’t really scroll or watch much. TikTok has amazing creator tools built in. Simply put, TikTok does what I want it to do.
That said, it doesn’t do what I want it to do all the time. Take this comic: It wasn’t enough to simply have a narrator say, “Cluck, cluck!” and “Ha-ha!” Those are sounds, not words (i.e., onomatopoeia, as you may remember from grade school). I wanted a chicken sound and an audience laughter and applause. Enter iMovie!
I used the built-in sound effects in iMovie to create a static video with just the comic and timed everything out as best as I could. Here’s what that looked like:

If you’re not familiar with the software, it looks more complicated than it actually is. The whole process in iMovie took about ten minutes.
I then uploaded that video into TikTok and overlayed it with some text and narration along with the comic itself, so that I could resize it accordingly. That took about another ten minutes. All in all, the entire process was under 30 minutes. Not bad.
What do you think?
