I love memes! I also love the fact that I was able to experience the 80s as a kid. On January 1, 1980, I had just turned five years old. For anyone who’s a parent out there, you know that five is a magic age when a kid stops being a crazy toddler and starts a new chapter. For me, the 80s was that chapter, and oh, what an awesome chapter!
Here are some Awesome 80’s Memes that I found while meandering about the internet:
We would also get cigarettes for adults if you can believe it. All we had to say was, “It’s for so-and-so,” and they would sell them to us. We never dreamed of smoking them ourselves. No, we got the candy ones and pretended to smoke.I honestly can’t believe that kids don’t do this anymore. Of course, covered our books because they used the same books year after year. I believe that schools now change their books more often. I have a sneaky suspicion that they do this now for profit. I doubt that much changes in a year unless we’re talking about Social Studies. If you’re not Gen X and you don’t get this meme, take a moment to read the book “The Fourth Turning.” Go on. I’ll wait.I never had jellies as I was a boy, but I remember EVERY girl owning a pair. Is the filling in those McDonald’s pie still super hot? I remember biting in and burning every part of my mouth.Back in the 80’s, we weren’t “Gamers,” but everyone seemed to play video games. Nintendo was the top of the heap. If you’re young and you want a glimpse into that world, I recommend you watch “8-Bit Christmas.” It’s a new Christmas movie classic!Strangely, the one I remember most isn’t here: Pimento Loaf. I hated that stuff! You only cried until someone called you a “Crybaby” then you got up and said, “I’m OK” and got back to playing.Late 70s is basically the 80s. We only did this when it was an emergency; when the radio station was about to play our favorite song.Bash played tetherball with me at a visit to Camp Camp and he loved it! He didn’t know what he was doing, but he loved it nonetheless. As of this moment, I’m about a month shy of 50. Until then, I’m in between days. Another late 70s one. But, when we were kids, we saw most of this in the 80s on VHS so it counts. These days will return. I believe it.
