This gag was going nowhere as I was drawing it. It was a strange thing to be writing and drawing something from my brain without a gag at the end. Any other time, the gag would present itself naturally, but not this time.

Initially, the son put on the headphones and realized his dad was listening to whale calls. The kid asks, “Whale sounds?” To which the dad replies, “Whale OPERA, you uncultured swine! Give me back my headphones!”

I don’t know why my brain kicked out that gag. It’s rude and uneven. A dad should not call his son “swine,” unless it’s a pig dad talking to his pig son, of course. But also, it’s mean-spirited for no reason. At the core, was a dad zoned out and a boy who wanted to connect with his dad somehow. When that occurred, I came at the gag from a different angle.

Sure, the dad is still rude, but that’s the irony, right?

Here’s a video!
